futuramb:

An ATM skimmer gang stole more than $400,000 using skimming devices built with the help of high-tech 3D printers, federal prosecutors say. (via Gang Used 3D Printers for ATM Skimmers — Krebs on Security)

This event reminds me of early check frauds in US using the then recently developed portable inkjet printers.

We are in the process of step by step understanding how powerful it is to be able to produce a few almost perfect 3D copies of something you either have in your hand, on a digital photo or found as a 3D model somewhere on the Internet.

I think the major problem of understanding this lies in that we are programmed by the logic of the industrial era where the raster of factory mass production is shaping our thinking.
